There’s something so fun about getting married somewhere that feels completely different from the usual Las Vegas wedding. Coral and Nolan’s Oasis at Death Valley wedding was exactly that. Their day was intimate, colorful, and very much their own, with a Desert Disco theme, jewel tones, and only 15 guests in attendance. As a Death Valley photographer and videographer duo based in Las Vegas, we love traveling for weddings like this, especially when we get to combine digital, 35mm film, Super 8, and Polaroids all in one day!

Coral and Nolan booked our 10-hour package, which gave us plenty of time to document everything from getting ready in their private Casitas through their reception and late-night pool jump. Coral is a huge fan of analog photography, so she wanted the majority of the day photographed on film. I may have gotten a little carried away and photographed a lot of it on both digital and film, but honestly, I’m not mad about it!

Why Have an Oasis at Death Valley Wedding?

The Oasis at Death Valley is a historic property tucked into the heart of Death Valley National Park, and it feels worlds away from Las Vegas even though it’s only about two hours from the city. That contrast is one of my favorite things about it. You get the desert landscape, mountain views, and wide-open skies without giving up the charm of a historic resort. The property itself is also fairly intimate, which makes a big difference when you’re planning a wedding. You can move from your Casita to the ceremony, portraits, and reception without spending half the day driving between locations.

The Oasis at Death Valley website describes the property as a combination of Old California charm and the natural beauty of Death Valley, and I think that’s a pretty perfect way to put it. There are historic buildings, lush gardens, desert views, a classic pool, and even a rooftop terrace overlooking the valley.

For couples who want a destination wedding without a giant resort feel, it’s a really cool option.

And if you’re coming from Las Vegas, you can easily spend a few days in the city before or after your wedding, then head out to Death Valley for something completely different.

The Oasis at Death Valley Wedding Venues

One of the best things about planning a wedding here is that you have several spaces to choose from depending on your guest count and the kind of day you want.

Mission Gardens

Mission Gardens is one of the larger outdoor spaces and can accommodate weddings from 2 to 150 guests. It’s also designed to work for both ceremonies and receptions, which makes the logistics really easy.

This is where Coral and Nolan held their reception, and it was such a fun choice for their Desert Disco theme. The lush greenery surrounding the space gave them a really cool contrast against the desert landscape, especially once the sun went down and everything started to light up.

Casita Lawn

The Casita Lawn is another outdoor option and can accommodate up to 150 guests. It’s surrounded by the historic Casitas and desert gardens, making it a beautiful ceremony location.

This is where Coral and Nolan exchanged their vows, and it was especially convenient because their Casitas were just a few steps away.

Gold Rush Room

For smaller weddings, the Gold Rush Room accommodates up to 32 guests. It’s designed for intimate ceremonies or receptions and would be a great option for a small dinner with your closest people.

Stargazer’s Terrace

If the views are your priority, Stargazer’s Terrace is hard to beat. The space offers 270-degree views of Death Valley and accommodates up to 40 guests. It also has required room reservations, so if this space catches your eye, I’d reach out to the venue early for the current requirements and pricing.

Coral & Nolan’s Desert Disco Wedding

Coral and Nolan kept their wedding small with just 15 guests, including their bridal party. That gave us so much flexibility throughout the day. We started in their separate Casitas for getting-ready photos. One fun thing to know about the Casitas is that guests staying there get a private golf cart to use during their stay, which makes getting around the property even easier.

When we arrived at Nolan’s Casita, he and his groomsmen were already mostly dressed. We always recommend leaving a little bit of getting ready left to do so we can capture those moments without making anything feel staged. Nolan wanted things to stay casual, so his friends hung out, took shots of tequila, talked, and hyped him up before he stepped outside to finish writing his vows.

Coral’s getting ready time was a little more emotional. Her mom helped zip her into her dress, her maid of honor put on her veil, and her best man made sure every last thread was taken care of. Then it was time to get the two of them officially married!

A Casita Lawn Wedding Ceremony

With only 15 people there, the Casita Lawn was the perfect spot for their ceremony. It was just a short walk from where they had been getting ready, so we didn’t have to spend any time loading everyone into cars or shuttles.

Their officiant also made the ceremony completely their own by telling their love story like a rom-com. It was funny, personal, and exactly the kind of ceremony that matched them. They also planted a Joshua Tree during the ceremony, which they later took home to care for. I loved this detail because it gave them something tangible from their wedding day that they could actually keep growing together.

After the ceremony, their guests enjoyed cocktail hour with roulette tables while we snuck away for some couple portraits.

The Best Photo Locations at The Oasis at Death Valley

One of my favorite things about photographing a wedding here is that you don’t necessarily need a specific photo location. The entire property is beautiful!

We wandered around the grounds and photographed Coral and Nolan wherever the light and scenery looked good. Between the desert landscape, historic architecture, gardens, mountains, and palm trees, there’s plenty of variety without having to drive somewhere else.

The Casitas are also great for getting-ready photos, especially if you want your wedding gallery to have a more relaxed, residential feel.

A Desert Disco Reception in Mission Gardens

After portraits, we made our way over to Mission Gardens for the reception. The space was just across the small two-lane road from the hotel parking lot, which was super easy to get to. Coral and Nolan arrived first so they could see the reception space before their guests. Their Desert Disco theme came through everywhere, with jewel tones and colorful details that looked especially good against the greenery of the gardens.

Then they hid away while their guests arrived. Once everyone was seated, the bridal party made their entrance, followed by Coral and Nolan. They went straight into their first dance, followed by the father-daughter and mother-son dances.

As the evening continued, the space completely changed. Dinner was served, speeches were made, and eventually the dance floor opened up. And then there were donkeys! Because apparently every good Death Valley wedding needs donkeys.

Toward the end of the reception, their florist also made beautiful bouquets for each guest to take home as a wedding favor. It was such a thoughtful little detail and a fun way to end the evening.

Except the evening wasn’t actually over!

Ending Their Wedding Day With a Pool Jump

Death Valley can be HOT. Even though Coral and Nolan got married in March, we happened to hit a heat wave that weekend. So after a full day of celebrating, they decided there was really only one reasonable thing to do… Jump into the pool in their wedding clothes. Their wedding party joined them, and it was such a fun way to finish the night!

Tip 1: Give yourself time to enjoy the property.

The property may be intimate, but there’s still a lot to see. If you’re hiring a photographer for the full day, I’d give yourself enough time to enjoy getting ready, portraits, the ceremony, and reception without trying to cram everything together.

Tip 2: Think about the heat.

Death Valley is hot. Very hot. Even in March, Coral and Nolan experienced an unexpected heat wave. If you’re planning an outdoor ceremony or reception, make sure you think about shade, hydration, and the time of day when planning your timeline.

Tip 3: Consider staying in a Casita.

If you’re looking for a little extra privacy, the Casitas are a really fun option. They’re spacious, surrounded by gardens, and come with a private golf cart for guests to use during their stay.

Tip 4: Plan for the night sky.

Death Valley is known for its incredibly dark skies, so don’t forget to look up after the sun goes down. If you have the time, I’d absolutely build a few minutes into your timeline for night photos.
