So when Brianna and Robert told us they wanted their wedding to have a nostalgic, vintage feel, we immediately knew 35mm film photography and a Super 8 wedding film would be the perfect fit.

As a Las Vegas wedding and elopement photographer and videographer duo, we’re always excited when couples lean into the experience. Brianna and Robert chose to have their wedding photographed entirely on 35mm film while adding a Super 8 wedding film to tell the story of their day. Why Brianna & Robert Chose a Super 8 Wedding Film

From the very beginning, Brianna and Robert knew they weren’t looking for something polished or overly produced. They wanted their wedding to feel like an old home movie. They wanted the kind of wedding film that you pull out years later and it instantly brings you back to how the day actually felt.

Choosing Sure Thing Chapel only added to that vision. The chapel already carries so much vintage character, making it the perfect place to begin a wedding centered around nostalgia. After their ceremony, we wandered through downtown Las Vegas, stopping at El Cortez, Fremont Street, and a few quiet corners in between. 

What Is Super 8?

Super 8 is a vintage film format that first became popular in the 1960s, long before digital cameras existed. Families used it to document birthdays, vacations, and everyday life, and today it’s finding a new home in the wedding world.

We film on a real Super 8 camera using real Kodak film, so every frame is captured exactly as it happens. Unlike modern cameras, Super 8 doesn’t record audio. One of our favorite parts of the Super 8 experience is that couples choose the music for their final film. That personal touch makes every video completely different and helps tell the story in a way that feels true to them.

Part of what makes Super 8 so special is that every roll has a beginning and an end. There isn’t an unlimited record button, and there aren’t second chances for every little moment. That limitation encourages us to slow down, pay attention, and capture the moments that matter most. The soft grain, gentle movement, occasional light leaks, and organic texture make Super 8 beautiful. It feels less like watching a wedding video and more like stepping back into a memory.

How Long Is a Super 8 Wedding Film?

One of the questions we’re asked most often is how long a Super 8 wedding film will be.

The answer depends on how much coverage you book and the energy of your day. As a general guideline, our couples can expect about one to three minutes of finished film for every hour we’re together.

Each roll of Super 8 records roughly three minutes of footage, but a ceremony alone often fills an entire roll because we want to capture as much of that moment as possible. Rather than filming continuously, we’re always thinking about storytelling and preserving the moments you’ll want to relive years from now.

Why We Love Pairing Super 8 with 35mm Film

While Super 8 tells your story through movement, 35mm film preserves it one frame at a time.

Both formats encourage a slower, more intentional way of documenting a wedding day. Instead of photographing thousands of images, every frame has purpose. We pay close attention to light, movement, and connection before pressing the shutter.

Film also has a look that’s difficult to recreate digitally. The colors are rich without feeling over-edited, skin tones stay true to life, and the grain adds texture. Rather than chasing perfection, film celebrates the little details that make your wedding unique.
