They wanted their engagement photos at the Monterey Bay Aquarium, and before they could even finish explaining their vision, we knew we were already in. We photographed this session on a Saturday right when the doors opened, and there were already at least 100 people lined up outside. The energy inside picked up quickly, which is something to plan for if you’re hoping for a quieter experience.

If your schedule allows for it, we definitely recommend choosing a weekday. It gives you more space to move around and makes it easier to settle into those slower, more intimate moments.

That being said, busy locations don’t mean you can’t have cinematic engagement photos. It just means approaching the session a little differently and knowing how to work with the environment instead of against it. We’re here for it!

That’s one of the biggest parts of our approach. We’re not waiting for perfect conditions. We’re paying attention to what’s already there and building from it! Whether it’s reflections in the glass, shadows from the exhibits, or quick in-between moments as people pass by, there’s always something to work with.

Because Sam and Chris stayed so present with each other, everything else faded into the background. Their connection carried the entire session, and that’s what made the final images feel so immersive.
